Rice Crackers + Hummus + Kraut
Hello Friends,Since I was out of the country for the start of the new year, February has kind-of-been like my January :)! So now that my new year has officially begun, so has my re-inspired love for healthy snacks. My latest and greatest favorite is super simple and only has 3 ingredients :).
rice crackers + hummus + kraut
For those of you that are #vegan and/or #glutenfree, this is a fantastic snack (or an impressive appetizer) that is fast, filling and easily changeable...not to forget it also looks beautiful :).Yesterday I used Spicy Hummus on rice crackers with flax and topped it with Farmhouse Culture's Horseradish Leek Kraut. But this weekend my honey and I had plain rice crackers topped with plain hummus and Farmhouse Culture's Ginger Beet Kraut. Both were very different in taste, but equally delicious! This is one of those snacks that with some effort you could make yourself (I have some links below for my favorite recipes), or if you don't have time or are going to be traveling somewhere...this is a great option to take with you or pick up wherever you are.
FOR THE KRAUT---make sure it's raw!
Traditional Sauerkraut--- http://detoxinista.com/2012/05/how-to-make-raw-sauerkraut/If you don't have time, I think Farmhouse Culture Kraut is a great option; it has an awesome selection of flavors to choose from and they are all organic and made in small, unpasteurized batches. For those of that don't know too much about kraut, let me tell you the little I learned from Farmhouse Culture's website:"It’s not just the flavor and texture that makes raw kraut superior – it’s also much healthier. The process of lacto-fermentation fills kraut up with live lactobacilli and beneficial microbes, which die when kraut is pasteurized. When you eat raw kraut...this happy, thriving microflora goes on living in your gut, improving digestion, helping promote the growth of a healthy Microbiome, and protecting against many diseases."
FOR THE HUMMUS
My Sun-dried Tomatoes and Herbs Hummus--- http://www.wholesomesoul.com/2012/04/05/hummus-sun-dried-tomato-and-herbs/ Traditional Hummus--- http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/hummus-for-real-recipe.htmlI'd love to hear what combinations you come up with...Here's to a happy and healthy New Year :)!xo,Kajal
