Spring is Here (I think...).

I think spring is here....we've been having 60-70 degrees days here in Northern Viriginia---however, yesterday we went from 65 degrees to 30 degrees :)...so who really knows! With spring in the air...we got up this weekend at 6:30 am to go see the infamous Cherry Blossoms along the tidal basin in Washington D.C....unfortunately, a few thousand other people had the same idea :). Since parking was a little crazy, we ended up just driving the loop rather than walking, but it was perfect! Here's a little peek at the beauties we saw...The spring on the East coast is so different than California. In California, we get a few good rains and then almost like overnight, the yellow hills turn bright green, the trees flower and then you blink your eyes and all of sudden they have leaves and it's 80-90 degrees.However, my experience thus far  on the east coast been a little different. We had a few magical warm days that made me forget about winter...but then winter showed his head again and I was reminded of the bitter cold. That happened a few times, but then the rain started. It rained for several weeks with warm and cold days mixed in between and then little buds began sprouting on the trees. After a week or two they slowly start flowering....then it rained more, then it got warm, then it rained more....and then it got warm. In between those warm and cool days the leaves started peeking out...and that's as far as we've gotten here now :).I personally like quick California springs, but I am enjoying the long drawn out beauty of the spring here as well :). There are so many flowering trees! Of course there are a ton of Cherry Blossoms everywhere, but there are also a ton of other flowering trees...two that really stood out for me where these ones that were completely covered in BIG white daisies and pink lotuses....I've never seen such beauty before!And of course, a sure sign of spring is when you see the farmer's market's back in action. Alexandria has two farmers's markets; one in town square and one in a cute little neighborhood called Del Ray. Both happen every Sat AM from 8-noon. I'm definitely looking forward to the warmer days, longer hours of sunlight and spending more time outdoors. So what does spring look like in your area? Is your favorite farmer's market open yet?
