Meditation: calamity & the soul.

"When there is calamity, it is the energy of the soul that protects."

---Shri Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji (This House is on Fire, page 249)

Isn't that beautiful! "When there is calamity, it is the energy of the soul that protects". Dhyanyogiji said this at the ground breaking ceremony of his first ashram in Ahmedabad, India in 1971. During that talk he explains that meditation is not imaginary and it is subtler than an atom. It breaks pride and ego, changes a persons nature and increases their intellect. He goes on to say that both chanting and meditation help create honest emotions, help you sleep better and relax deeper. And he even touches on the benefit of a vegetarian diet, "as is your food, so does your mind become"...  In short, he explains that all the benefits of meditation and a yogic lifestyle come down to nothing but making your souls light shine brighter, deeper and stronger, "without any negative side effects...(and) with less effort you get better results".This House is on Fire: The Life of Shri Dhyanyogi, As told by Shri Anandi Ma, is one of my ALL time favorite books! I try to read it at least once a year because I find it so inspiring and uplifting. Shri Dhyanyogi Madhusudanasji was a Kundalini Yoga Master that lived to be 116! He came to America at the age of 98....and shed a whole new light on what LOVE, DEVOTION and MEDITATION really mean. There are so many amazing nuggets of gold sprinkled throughout the book....every year when I read it, I find something new that resonates with me in a whole new way depending on where and what I am doing in my life. It's amazing to think how one life can make such an impact on a village, on a state, on a country and on the world.Over the next few weeks, I plan on taking tidbits like this from the book and sharing them with you all. If you haven't had the opportunity to read this amazing book in its entirety, I would highly suggest doing so....because as Linda Johnsen said, "This House is on Fire is a new spiritual classic".If you've read this book, I'd love to hear what you thought about it...what your favorite passage is ...
