Chasing Happiness
Have you ever chased your best life—comfort, health or happiness— mistaking it as a destination?
There's an unspoken idea that's often painted by society, that in some way, our best life is attached to a destination or what I like to call, a Big Life Event (BLE).
For example, “When I...
Get the perfect grades
Graduate from that prestigious school
Become financially independent
Land that perfect job
Drive that car
Get to that certain weight
Meet and marry Mr/Ms Right
Run that marathon
Buy that house
Start a family
Take that awesome vacation
Etc, etc, etc, (the list is pretty endless)
....I'll reach that perfect place. And, be —comfortable, healthy and happy—for good”.
How has that worked out for you so far?
I can say without a doubt that my best life HAS NOT unfolded exactly like that. :)
What if your best life was actually an intentional state of being?
What I'm learning is that each of those Big Life Event (BLE) that I described above, is just one peak along our journey. And, our best life does not appear when we reach a certain peak—because when we summit one peak, we're usually already planning for our next one. What I've learned over the years is that our best life is not any single, external destination, but an on-going, intentional state of being.
And, that intentional state of being is what determines our well-being—the state of our comfort, health and happiness. It's an on-going, total well-being—mind/body/soul—expedition that's rooted in learning, growing and evolving. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted because it takes ample courage, commitment, tenacity and focus....along with equal measures of patience, reflection, wisdom, and strategy.
The Well-Being Journey— an on-going expedition
Each expedition to a new peak brings its own beauty and challenges. When you're young, although the peaks look high, the mountains you climb are relatively small. And over time they get bigger and bigger. Each peak prepares you for the next one.
How's Your’s Going?
Since every BLE rarely unfolds without its own set of obstacles and challenges, the question then becomes, as you travel from peak to peak, one Big Life Event after another....how equipped and skilled are you to handle the changing-terrain, weather patterns and unexpected obstacles, delays and hardships? Especially when hit with unexpected life events, like death of a loved one, losing a job, getting sick, you fill in the blank…. Are you able to keep yourself nourished? Are you able to stay focused and keep perspective? How do you respond to the uncertainty of it all? Are you able to savor and enjoy the views? Are you able to weather the storms? Are you able to give gratitude for the blessings, lessons, help and wins you experience along the way? Are you able to celebrate the little moments that make up these big peaks in life?
Why Invest in Your Journey?
The beauty of investing in your well-being is that when equipped with the right tools, strategies and practices— that nourish, rejuvenate and energize your unique mind + body— you're more likely to be confident, agile and resilient in the face of uncertainty and fear. And, as you get more skilled and experienced, your entire journey changes because you're prepared from the inside out. So then, the higher peaks, new terrain, constantly changing weather patterns, unexpected obstacles— become manageable challenges rather than overwhelming obstacles.
The aim being, that eventually you're not only able to summit to your goals but stay atop the summit longer so that you can savor and appreciate where you're at. And, instead of going down the mountain, maybe you'll be equipped and skilled enough so you can just walk the ridge-line, one peak to another. And if for some reason you do have to walk down the mountain— you can rest easy, knowing you have the skills, wisdom and experience, along with an understanding of the tools, equipment and strategies to get you back up.
How can I help you on your journey?
My focus is to help soulful humans navigate their well-being journey by staying nourished, inspired and equipped on their ever-evolving expedition. I'd love to help you get started or support you wherever you're already at.
